Infosys board member V Balakrishnan quits

Indian IT outsourcing vendor Infosys said its board member V Balakrishnan has resigned from the company.

The resignation is effective December 31.

According to media reports, Balakrishnan was seen as a leading contender to the CEO position when incumbent SD Shibulal’s tenure ends in 2015. With his resignation, BG Srinivas has become one of the internal candidates to succeed Shibulal.

The Bangalore-based Infosys may consider an external candidate for the CEO position in 2015.

Balakrishnan is now the head of the India and BPO businesses. A few months back, Balakrishnan was given the additional responsibility of chairman of the Switzerland-based consultancy firm Lodestone that was acquired in a $350 million deal last year.
