Emerson will serve as automation contractor, combining its refining expertise and advanced technologies to help Indian Oil meet the country’s new Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) low-sulfur emissions standards, which take effect in April 2020.

“Companies that leverage automation technologies and digital transformation programs will have a significant advantage in their goal of reaching Top Quartile performance,” said Lal Karsanbhai, executive president of Emerson’s Automation Solutions business.

The project will upgrade 14 different process units, including diesel hydro-treating units to reduce sulfur content and octane-boosting units either being installed or augmented with desulfurization technologies.
