Seattle-based X2 Biosystems has entered into an agreement with Major League Soccer (MLS) to supply its Integrated Concussion Evaluation (ICE) software application for MLS teams during the 2014 soccer season.
The X2 ICE is a touch-screen based cloud application built for iOS7 and Windows 8 operating systems, which provides concussion assessment data and allows authorized team health care providers instant access to each of their players’ past and present information.
“Working with MLS allowed us to create an application specifically tailored to the league’s needs,” said Dr. Ed Mlinek, X2 chief of clinical affairs. The resulting application embodies MLS’ specific medical protocols and can be customized to conform to the league’s evolving standards in the future, he added.
Ten MLS teams will use the X2 software during the 2014 season with anticipation of adoption by the entire league in 2015. All 32 teams in the National Football League (NFL) used the NFL version of the X2 ICE last season.
