SafeNet and Wind River to help device makers for software-based product monetization approach

Infotech Lead America: SafeNet has joined hands with Wind River Systems to assist device and equipment makers to transit from hardware-centric business models to software-based product monetization approach.

SafeNet’s software licensing toolkit, Sentinel RMS, supports VxWorks RTOS (real-time operating system), enabling customers to enjoy software protection, licensing, and management technology out-of-the-box.

Embedded appliances are shifting to architectures that combine standardized hardware with more and more sophisticated software. This shift to software-based intellectual property is enabling more flexible and competitive pricing.

Avni Rambhia, digital media industry manager, Frost & Sullivan, said: “This shift to software-based intellectual property also brings with it many new and unfamiliar risks for intelligent hardware vendors, such as vulnerability to counterfeiting and piracy, and device tampering, making software security a business-critical consideration for all intelligent device manufacturers.”

The deal will allow Wind River customers using VxWorks to take advantage of SafeNet’s software monetization solutions to protect their intellectual property from tampering, reverse engineering, and theft.

Prakash Panjwani, SVP & GM, Software Monetization, SafeNet, said: “Many customers face obstacles when it comes to controlling access to their IP, ensuring the functioning integrity of their products, and experimenting with new, more flexible business models.”

SafeNet solutions are optimized for the resource and memory constraints typically presented by embedded environments.

SafeNet offers Sentinel Software Monetization Solutions tailored specifically to protect and manage software embedded within any piece of hardware—from networking appliances and medical devices to mobile handsets and industrial automation equipment.
