OMRON selects Cognizant as engineering partner

OMRON has selected Cognizant as its engineering partner to revolutionize manufacturing through a integration of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT).

This decision stems from the complementary strengths of the two companies — OMRON’s expertise in automation and control equipment and Cognizant’s capabilities in IT-OT convergence, including AI, cloud computing, IoT, and digital twin technologies. Financial details of the technology deal between OMRON and Cognizant were not disclosed.

The partnership is aimed at creating a comprehensive, one-stop solution for digital transformation in manufacturing, targeting industries such as Automotive, Semiconductor, Electronics, Life Sciences, and Consumer Goods.

OMRON’s portfolio, with over 200,000 SKUs ranging from sensors to robots, provides rich field data that will feed into Cognizant’s digital platforms like Asset Performance Excellence (APEx) and OnePlant.

These tools will analyze and prioritize management-level improvements, with results looped back into operations via OMRON’s control applications and i-BELT data services. This cycle enables a seamless link between on-site challenges and strategic business decisions, forming a feedback loop that drives continuous improvement.

The decision to partner with Cognizant also reflects OMRON’s vision to promote sustainable, efficient, and intelligent manufacturing. By combining real-time operational insights with advanced digital technologies, the collaboration supports productivity gains, operational flexibility, workforce efficiency, and significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Cognizant’s end-to-end capabilities and global IT services experience were key factors in being chosen, aligning with OMRON’s goals of integrating technology across all production layers to foster a more resilient and autonomous manufacturing environment.

Junta Tsujinaga, CEO of OMRON Corporation and Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant emphasized their shared commitment to sustainable innovation and the transformation of traditional factories into digitally connected, intelligent ecosystems.

The partnership will enable manufacturers to respond more quickly and effectively to industry challenges and changing market demands. The collaboration is expected to deliver not just technical solutions but also strategic value by enhancing decision-making and aligning operational goals with broader management objectives.
