NTT Com adds kit to develop iOS and Android apps

NTT Communications announced a software development kit (SDK) to develop Apple iOS and Google Android applications.

Earlier, developers were building WebRTC libraries and signaling servers to equip Apple iOS and Android applications with WebRTC functions for real-time peer-to-peer communications via PC and smartphone browsers and native apps without using servers.

The development is in response to developers demand for developing Apple iOS and Android native applications. Safari and Chrome did not support WebRTC for iOS and some versions of Android browser.

Developers of Apple iOS and Android application will be able to use WebRTC, and insert the P2P images and voice communication functions and data transmission. NTT Com aims to create service that would change society, while collaborating with application developers.

The new SDK enables users to tap SkyWay’s library and signaling server for WebRTC applications for accelerating the development process. This is the first time in Japan to offer an SDK for smartphone applications and services using a WebRTC platform.

Open SkyWay WebRTC platform for Web-based (browser), launched in December 2013 in Japan, offers SDKs for web browser environments deploying JavaScript. NTT Communications has received more than 8,000 applications.
