The Maharashtra Sales Tax Department (MSTD) has deployed SAS analytics solutions to identify and minimise revenue loss through tax evasion.
The deployment of the SAS analytics solutions is important as MSTD contributes to approximately two-thirds of the total revenue of the State Government.
The deployment of analytics solutions enables MSTD, which has 11,000 professionals, to leverage data-driven decision making in devising policies to maximise tax collection.
Through universal coverage of all eligible tax payers, SAS’ intelligence solutions will enable decision support and resource optimisation across various divisions of MSTD.
The department, after the successful implementation of analytics solutions, hopes to curb practices of evasion and suppression activities performed by fraudulent dealers.
“I hope the cutting edge tools of data mining and data analysis from SAS would surely help department to curb the revenue leakages and enhance the state revenue,” said Vinay Kargaonkar, Special Inspector General of Police (Vigilance) Maharashtra Sales Tax.
