Microsoft revenue surges 16% to $27 bn as Cloud business finds more CIOs

Microsoft managed to accelerate corporate revenue growth for the fifth consecutive quarter in CY1Q18 to nearly 16 percent to almost $27 billion.

“Our results this quarter reflect the trust people and organizations are placing in the Microsoft Cloud,” said Satya Nadella, chief executive officer of Microsoft. “We are innovating across key growth categories of infrastructure, AI, productivity, and business applications to deliver differentiated value to customers.”

# Revenue was $26.8 billion and increased 16%

# Operating income was $8.3 billion and increased 23%

# Net income was $7.4 billion and increased 35%

Microsoft’s revenue growth was primarily driven by cloud assets such as Azure and Office 365, and supported by double-digit server software growth.

“Microsoft’s financial performance, and recently announced engineering reorganization show that the company’s legacy roots have no bearing on its ability to pivot and address current and emerging technology trends such as cloud, AI, IoT and hybrid,” TBR analyst Kelsey Mason said.

Microsoft’s revenue in Productivity and Business Processes was $9.0 billion, registering a growth of 17 percent.

Microsoft’s Office commercial products and cloud services revenue increased 14 percent driven by Office 365 commercial revenue growth of 42 percent.

Office consumer products and cloud services revenue increased 12 percent and Office 365 consumer subscribers increased to 30.6 million.

LinkedIn revenue increased 37 percent.

Dynamics products and cloud services revenue increased 17 percent driven by Dynamics 365 revenue growth of 65 percent.

Revenue in Intelligent Cloud was $7.9 billion and increased 17 percent.

Server products and cloud services revenue increased 20 percent driven by Azure revenue growth of 93 percent.

Enterprise Services revenue increased 8 percent.

Revenue in More Personal Computing was $9.9 billion and increased 13 percent.

Windows OEM revenue increased 4 percent driven by OEM Pro revenue growth of 11 percent.

Windows commercial products and cloud services revenue increased 21 percent.

Gaming revenue increased 18 percent driven by Xbox software and services revenue growth of 24 percent mainly from third party title strength.

Surface revenue increased 32 percent.
