Microsoft releases Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 for cloud and mobility

Microsoft has released the latest update to Visual Studio 2013 with focus on Windows Phone 8.1 and Microsoft Azure.

Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 is now available

With mobility and cloud being the key focus areas, Microsoft also introduced new virtual machine images for dev/test in Azure.

The new Visual Studio 2013 brings dozens of significant new features to Visual Studio developers, including tools for Windows Phone 8.1 and universal Windows apps, Microsoft blog said.

The rising trend of mobility in enterprise and the heterogeneity in consumer mobile device market have helped developers focus on building apps that can target a variety of devices.  With support for .NET, C++ and JavaScript, the new Visual Studio helps developers build apps for this heterogeneous, mobile-first world.

With support of Xamarin, the software also helps C# and Visual Studio developers target additional mobile devices including iOS and Android.

Microsoft has also released Visual Studio tooling support for Apache Cordova, a popular open source platform for building multi-device hybrid mobile applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, targeting a broad range of mobile devices.  This includes support for iOS and Android, as well as support for Windows Store and Windows Phone.
