Metro AG is reinforcing its commitment to digital innovation through an extended partnership with Wipro, focusing on next-generation cloud and AI technologies. The renewed two-year engagement aims to advance Metro’s digital maturity by accelerating its transformation across cloud infrastructure, data analytics, and AI-enabled IT services.

The international food wholesaler has worked with Wipro since 2021, during which time it has made significant strides in overhauling its IT landscape. As part of Metro’s cloud-first approach, Wipro helped migrate 80% of the company’s on-premise infrastructure to the cloud, boosting agility, cybersecurity, and sustainability. This migration not only enabled faster response to customer needs but also contributed to reducing Metro’s carbon footprint.
The next phase of collaboration will sharpen Metro’s focus on leveraging cloud computing, automation, and generative AI to support business scalability and secure operations. Wipro will work closely with Metro’s internal teams to deliver data-driven solutions, support governance use cases, and align with Metro’s growth and core business priorities.
Metro CIO Dr. Khaled Bagban emphasized the importance of IT stability and flexibility in supporting long-term business success, stating that the transition to the public cloud is foundational to Metro’s strategic goals. Wipro’s Germany and Austria Managing Director Ann-Kathrin Sauthoff-Bloch highlighted the partnership as a demonstration of AI-powered innovation tailored to the food wholesale sector.
This deal, referenced in Wipro’s Q4 FY25 earnings, reflects Metro’s ongoing pivot to a digital-first, cloud-enabled enterprise ready to scale securely and sustainably in a data-driven world.
