Canada’s WestJet Airlines is probing a cybersecurity incident that has disrupted access to its mobile app and certain internal systems, the company confirmed in a statement issued Friday. While the number of users affected remains undisclosed, the airline said the breach has triggered a comprehensive internal and external response.

Specialized internal security teams are currently working in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and Transport Canada to contain the incident and assess its scale. The company emphasized that its top priority is the protection of personal and sensitive data of both customers and employees.
“We are expediting efforts to safeguard sensitive data and personal information for both our guests and employees,” the airline stated, noting that it is too early to speculate on the root cause or full scope of the breach.
Despite the disruption to certain systems, WestJet has reassured passengers that flight operations remain safe and unaffected. The airline has not specified whether any data has been compromised or if threat actors have made any demands. WestJet said updates would be provided as investigations progress.
