Opera Software has acquired SurfEasy, a provider of a VPN solution for protecting customers’ online privacy and security on smartphones, tablets and computers.
The Toronto-based SurfEasy’s solutions secure public Wi-Fi, protect users’ online identities and unlock websites.
Chris Houston, founder and CEO, SurfEasy, said: “By teaming up with Opera, an internet company with over 350 million users, we are able to accelerate our vision to give users access to simple applications that let them take back control of their online privacy and freedom.”
Over 90 percent of US internet users have concerns about their online privacy and 86 percent have taken action to protect that privacy, looking for solutions and moderating their online activities, according to the 2015 TRUSTe index.
Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software, said: “Privacy and security has always been top of mind for Opera’s users, making the acquisition of SurfEasy a seamless fit.”
