The announcement was made during the Munich Security Conference as governments worldwide intensify their focus on digital sovereignty, data protection and technology resilience.

Trusted Tech Alliance Formed Amid Rising Digital Sovereignty Concerns

The Trusted Tech Alliance represents the first coordinated effort by a coalition of global technology companies to address growing concerns about data storage, supply chain security and cross-border technology trust.

The move comes as countries in Europe and Asia reconsider their dependence on foreign technology providers amid geopolitical tensions and shifting regulatory environments.

According to Microsoft President Brad Smith, many governments are feeling pressure to strengthen technology borders and create stronger national control over digital infrastructure.

Ericsson CEO Börje Ekholm added that no country can be fully sovereign on its own in the digital era, highlighting the need for global cooperation rather than technological fragmentation.

Founding Members of the Trusted Tech Alliance

The alliance spans companies across cloud computing, connectivity, semiconductors, software and artificial intelligence. Founding members include:

Amazon Web Services

Anthropic

Cassava Technologies

Cohere

Google Cloud

Hanwha Group

Jio Platforms

Nokia

Nscale

NTT

Rapidus

Saab

SAP

Together, the companies operate across the full technology stack, from connectivity and cloud infrastructure to AI and advanced semiconductors.

Five Principles Defining Trusted Technology

Members of the alliance have agreed to five core principles designed to build global trust in emerging technologies:

Transparent corporate governance and ethical conduct

Secure development, operational transparency and independent assessment

Robust supply chain and security oversight

Open, cooperative and resilient digital ecosystems

Respect for rule of law and strong data protection

Companies joining the alliance will self attest to these commitments and support independent assessments to ensure accountability.

Building Trust Across the Global Tech Stack

The initiative arrives during a period of rapid technological change and increasing skepticism about digital technologies and their societal impact.

Alliance members say the goal is to help governments and enterprises ensure technology is secure, reliable and responsibly operated regardless of where it is built or deployed.

Executives from participating companies emphasized that collaboration is essential to maintaining global innovation while strengthening resilience and public trust.

A Counterweight to Technology Fragmentation

The Trusted Tech Alliance aims to act as a counterbalance to the growing trend of technology fragmentation and digital protectionism.

By establishing shared global standards, the coalition hopes to ensure that innovation continues to drive economic growth, job creation and inclusive digital development worldwide. Microsoft said the initiative will expand over time, welcoming additional global providers committed to building an interoperable, open and trusted technology ecosystem.
