McAfee buys NanoSec to add container security capability

Anti-virus software company McAfee announced the acquisition of NanoSec, a security platform.
McAfee antivirus for PCsFinancial details were not disclosed. Vishwas Manral is the founder and CEO of NanoSec. NanoSec, based in Cupertino, Calif., has an office in Bengalaru, India.

The acquisition of NanoSec will strengthen the container security capabilities of McAfee MVISION Cloud and MVISION Server Protection products.

McAfee rival Symantec yesterday announced the company’s decision to sell its enterprise cyber security business to chipset company Broadcom in a cash deal valued at $10.7 billion.

McAfee will integrate NanoSec’s security capabilities, which will be applied to applications and workloads deployed in containers and Kubernetes, into McAfee MVISION Cloud and MVISION Server Protection offerings.

Rajiv Gupta, senior vice president and general manager of the cloud security business unit, McAfee, said NanoSec’s security capabilities include configuration compliance and vulnerability assessment as well as runtime application-level segmentation for detecting and preventing lateral movement of threats.
