Govt. IT services provider Leidos faces cyber attack

Hackers have leaked internal documents stolen from Leidos Holdings, one of the largest IT services providers to the U.S. government, according to a report by Bloomberg News.

Leidos Holdings

The Virginia-based company, which counts the U.S. Department of Defense as its primary customer, recently became aware of the issue and believes the documents were taken during a previously reported breach of a Diligent Corp. system it used.

Leidos, in a filing from June 2023, stated that the Diligent system was used to host information gathered in internal investigations. The company has confirmed that the issue stems from a previous incident affecting a third-party vendor, for which all necessary notifications were made in 2023. “This incident did not affect our network or any sensitive customer data,” the company reassured.

A spokesperson for Diligent indicated that the issue seems to be related to an incident from 2022, affecting its subsidiary Steele Compliance Solutions. The company had notified impacted customers and taken corrective action to contain the incident in November 2022. Leidos is currently investigating the matter further.
