F-Secure protects Airangel WiFi customers from snooping

F-Secure, a provider of security solutions to enterprises and home users, has formed partnership with Airangel, a leading WiFi provider in the U.K., to protect its WiFi hotspot users.

Airangel manages over 35 million WiFi connections each year at leading hotel groups, outdoor leisure and high profile retailers. As public WiFi networks become favorite targets of spammers and marketers, ensuring users’ privacy has become a major concern for the provider.

The partnership will help Airangel eliminate snooping through WiFi networks. It can help the provider block harmful web links and improve privacy and safety of thousands of WiFi hotspot users across the U.K.

The WiFi provider has selected F-Secure Freedome, a security and online privacy app that protects mobile devices, especially while using WiFi. It comes with VPN, anti-virus, anti-tracking and anti-phishing.

Thanks to F-Secure partnership, users of Airangel’s WiFi hotspots are taken to a landing page that will allow them to protect their online privacy with F-Secure security solutions. This will help prevent snooping by marketers, hackers or government agencies.

Allen Scott, managing director of F-Secure UK and Ireland, added that the ubiquity of WiFi has also fostered misplaced feelings of familiarity and safety among users. “It’s fine to use an unsecure connection to check the latest football results, but once you open up social networking apps or send communications, encryption is vital.”

Dean Wilkinson, CEO at Airangel added, “We had a strong interest in collaborating with F-Secure due to our similarities in offering market-leading and effective services to fast-growing businesses within the UK. We want our customers to have a great, but secure, WiFi experience and this partnership will ensure that.”
