AVG AntiVirus FREE for Android surpasses 70 million download mark on Google Play

Infotech Lead America: AVG Technologies says its mobile product AVG AntiVirus FREE for Android has surpassed the 70 million download mark on Google Play.

This is the first time that a security application has achieved this landmark, AVG Technologies said on Thursday.

AVG was the first company to provide a free security app for Android devices on the Android market now available on Google Play.

David Ferguson, general manager, Consumer and Mobile at AVG Technologies, said: “In such a constantly changing industry, reaching this important milestone is a testament to the dedication of our team to continually innovate and secure consumers’ rapid adoption of Android mobile devices.”

Recently, the company announced its update to AVG AntiVirus FREE for Android product at Mobile World Congress 2013. This was aimed at offering the best protection and ease of use experience to mobile users, combined with new features and enhancements.

“Mobile is an area of strategic focus for AVG. 2012 was a big year for us in the mobile space and 2013 will be no different,” said John Giamatteo, COO of AVG Technologies.

As part of AVG’s strategy, the company also launched AVG TuneUp for Android, bringing its leading optimization product to mobile users.
