Akamai opens new security operations center in Bangalore

Akamai Technologies has opened its new Security Operations Center (SOC) in Bangalore, India.

“It’s clear that many Asian countries continue to be a major source of cyber attacks,” said Sidharth Malik, managing director and vice president, India, Akamai Technologies. “Locating SOC resources close to the point of attack origin provides Akamai with a significant mitigation advantage.”

In its Q1 2015 “State of the Internet Security Report”, Akamai noted over 22 percent of the recorded DDoS attack source traffic originated from China during Q1 2015. When compared to the previous quarter, China saw a 66 percent increase in attack source IPs compared with the previous quarter’s top country.

The new facility, which began operations in December 2014, adds significant bandwidth capacity and 24/7 expertise to Akamai’s global cyber defense network. By year end, Bangalore will be the second largest Akamai SOC in terms of human resources outside of the United States.
