Air Europa, the Spanish airline, disclosed on Friday that personal data belonging to its customers may have been compromised in a security incident detected last October.
According to an email seen by Reuters, the company notified its customers that information including names, ID card or passport details, dates of birth, telephone numbers, email addresses, and nationality details could have been exposed.
The airline promptly reported the situation to authorities and advised customers to take precautionary measures. In a statement, Air Europa reassured customers that it is actively implementing preventive measures as part of an ongoing security innovation process, particularly in light of the rising number of such incidents.
This disclosure comes after Air Europa experienced a cyber attack on its online payment system last October, resulting in some customers’ credit card details being exposed. At the time, the airline assured that no other information was compromised, although it did not specify the number of affected customers.
