Rare animals and their body parts are being traded through most popular websites including Quikr, Olx, Ebay, Amazon and Youtube, the center said.
“Several websites are seen advertising sale of rare animals and their parts,” Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
He exposed a list of 106 those websites listed by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB). This list include major names like Quikr.com, olx.in, alibaba.com, eBay.com, youtube.com, amazon.com, shopping.rediff.com, petsmart.com and snapdeal.com.
According to a PTI report, Dave said several steps have been taken to prevent such illegal activities.
The government has sought help from cyber crime specialists on contractual basis to carry out regular cyber patrolling to detect posts and offers on such portals.
Once detected, the monitoring team will pass the information to the relevant enforcement agencies for legal action.
