COMPUTEX 2015: Rockchip launches Wi-Fi technology

Rockchip has launched the world lowest power Wi-Fi technology RKi6000 – at COMPUTEX 2015 Taipei.

The new technology is jointly developed with a third party and makes Wi-Fi power consumption equal to that of BT 4.0 LE (Low Energy).

The company said receiving power consumption is around 20mA during use which is 85% lower than state-of-the-art Wi-Fi devices for the Internet of Things (IoT).

According to Rockchip, the power of RKi6000 is comparable with Bluetooth 4.0 LE and it is possible to use Wi-Fi with coin cell batteries in IoT.

Additionally, the Wi-Fi technology can be used in more applications with limited sizes and currents.

RKi6000 can also reduce the power consumption and makes it equal to BT LE’s by improving RF transceiver architecture, adaptive dynamic power control technology and keeping the device online without waking up the host processor.

The RF transceiver architecture can reduce the active power consumption of IoT smart devices during continuous data transfer.

Power efficiency is optimized in different working modes and the total power consumption is reduced in different application scenarios.

RKi6000 can also reduce the wake up time and simplify the application power control design.

This apart, RKi6000 targeted smart wearable devices, consumer electronics, mainstream appliances, home safety, automation systems, automobiles and medical equipment.

These smart devices can reduce the cost of the application development and speed up the smart hardware commercialization.
