IBM has unveiled the IBM LinuxONE 4 Express, broadening access to performance, security, and AI capabilities for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and new data center environments.
This pre-configured rack mount system aims to streamline workload deployment and platform initiation, facilitating rapid adoption for addressing both emerging and traditional use cases such as digital assets, AI-powered medical imaging, and workload consolidation.
A recent IBM IBV survey revealed that 84 percent of executives acknowledged their struggles in eliminating siloed operations, while 78 percent cited an inadequate operating model as a barrier to multicloud platform adoption. To navigate these challenges, organizations are urged to meticulously assess workload placement, distinguishing between on-premises and cloud environments.
“With the latest LinuxONE 4 system, IBM delivers the power of hybrid cloud and AI in a user-friendly format tailored to fit diverse data center environments,” Tina Tarquinio, Vice President of Product Management for IBM Z and LinuxONE, said.
Universities, such as University College London, recognize the significance of high-performance computing in advancing research endeavors.
Owain Kenway, Head of Research Computing at University College London, highlighted the system’s suitability for high I/O workloads in biosciences and AI applications on medical data. The affordability of LinuxONE 4 Express promises broader access to academic and industry research initiatives.
IBM LinuxONE 4 Express builds on the success of IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper 4, leveraging the IBM Telum processor to enhance energy efficiency and data center optimization. With features tailored to meet stringent resiliency requirements, the system guarantees high availability, reaching 99.999999 percent (eight 9s) availability when combined with GDPS, IBM DS8000 series storage, and the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform environment.
LinuxONE 4 Express offers:
Digital assets: Providing a secure platform with confidential computing capabilities to safeguard sensitive data.
Medical imaging with AI: Enabling on-chip AI inferencing to analyze mission-critical data swiftly, enhancing business decision-making.
Workload consolidation: Simplifying IT environments and reducing costs by consolidating databases onto LinuxONE systems. IBM LinuxONE 4 Express is designed to assist clients that move Linux workloads from compared x86 server to an IBM LinuxONE 4 Express can save over 52 percent on their total cost of ownership over 5 years.
Eyad Alhabbash, Director of IBM Systems Solutions & Support Group at Saudi Business Machines (SBM), attested to the superior performance and user-friendly management of IBM LinuxONE III Express, underscoring its value for strategic customer engagements.
The IBM LinuxONE 4 Express, starting at a price of $135,000, will be available from IBM and certified business partners on February 20, 2024, extending the reach of advanced computing capabilities to SMBs and diverse data center environments. It will be available in select markets.
