VMware appoints Ben Fathi as CTO

Cloud vendor VMware has appointed Ben Fathi as chief technology officer (CTO).

Fathi, who has been with the company since 2012, most recently served as senior vice president, R&D, at VMware.

Fathi, who will report to VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger, brings experience managing large global teams and delivering innovation, with a focus on customer needs and product quality.

As senior vice president, R&D, Fathi led teams responsible for core VMware products and product innovations that achieved new levels of scale, performance and reliability.

Prior to joining VMware, Fathi served as a senior vice president at Cisco leading the operating systems and networking protocol teams.

Prior to Cisco, he held multiple roles at Microsoft over 12 years, most recently as corporate vice president of development for the Windows core operating system division.

Fathi succeeds Steve Herrod who served as VMware’s CTO from 2008-2013.
