Toshiba today announced Storage Place — cloud and local storage capabilities in a single offering — for $39.99 per year.
The company is also offering trial cloud storage for a 30-day time period.
New users of Storage Place will receive 10GB of free, said Toshiba.
Toshiba Storage Place is designed to provide secure mobile access anytime, anywhere and the ability to share files with any Internet-connected device without requiring data uploads to a cloud environment.
Storage Place is an important part of Toshiba’s cloud strategy that includes content hubs, including Book Place and Travel Place.
The company in a statement said Storage Place is the first storage service that doesn’t rely on the cloud to provide secure and private file sharing that works across devices.
Offering remote access devices, including iOS, Android and Windows 8, Storage Place provides cloud and local file storage and sync capabilities, eliminating the need for syncing to the cloud.
Storage Place permits large file linking and sharing with recipients beyond the Storage Place network, removing the need for a Storage Place account to view and download content from other Storage Place users.
