Microsoft veteran Amit Mital has joined security solutions vendor Symantec as chief technology officer.
Mital, who will be responsible for driving the company’s technology strategy with a focus on accelerating innovation, product development and R&D, will report to Symantec CEO Steve Bennett.
At Microsoft, where he worked for around 20 years, Mital most recently served as the corporate vice president for the company’s Startup Business Group, responsible for managing strategic product development along with identifying and executing new innovation opportunities.
Mital holds 43 patents and is an innovator in several technologies that align with Symantec’s business including machine learning, big data, and high scale web and cloud services.
Steve Trilling, Symantec’s current CTO, will be moving to an operational senior leadership role in the company.
