Infotech Lead Europe: Swiss telecoms provider Swisscom will sell cloud infrastructure service provider Akamai Technologies’ products in Switzerland.
Their partnership will focus on content delivery market, which will reach $7.4 billion globally by 2017 according to a report published by MarketsandMarkets, web application acceleration and cloud security market.
In addition, both companies will work together to provide solutions to improve the web and cloud experience for both enterprises and consumers in Switzerland.
Swisscom, which has over 6.2 million mobile customers, 791,000 Swisscom TV customers and around 1.7 million retail broadband connections in Switzerland, will act as a preferred go to market partner for Akamai in Switzerland, reselling and integrating the Akamai services portfolio into its solutions to create value-added services for its customers.
Incorporated in 1998, Akamai Technologies has deployed a highly-distributed cloud optimization platform with over 127,000 servers in 81 countries within over 1,150 networks.
The company, which currently has over 3000 employees, reported an annual revenue of $1.37 billion in 2012, up 19 percent year over year.
Earlier this month eLynx Technologies, a provider of web-based monitoring, exception based alarming, and field automation services for the oil and gas industry, chose Akamai Terra Enterprise Solutions to provide performance optimization for the company’s SCADALynx technology.
Akamai has also helped global TV parts distributor ShopJimmy safeguard its retail site from potential online threats by implementing Akamai’s Dynamic Site Accelerator Premier and Web Application Firewall solutions.
Akamai’s recent acquisitions — Blaze Software, Cotendo, Fastsoft and Verivue — assisted the company to enhance its offerings.
Last year Akamai announced its plans to expand its presence in India. Akamai has crossed the 100 customers mark in the Indian market. Its new customers in India include RedBus, India’s largest bus ticketing service and Bombay Stock Exchange.
