Savvis, a provider of cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, has inked an agreement with Hortonworks, a vendor of Apache Hadoop, an open source platform for storing, managing, and analyzing large volumes of data.
Under the terms of agreement, Savvis will use Hadoop to offer cloud-based big data solutions for enterprises.
Savvis, a CenturyLink company, will integrate its Symphony suite of cloud services with Hortonworks Data Platform, which will simplify the movement of data between the Hadoop-based platform hosted by Savvis and enterprise data systems.
“Offering cloud-based big data solutions for enterprises will greatly help Apache Hadoop become the next-generation data management platform,” said Mitch Ferguson, vice president of business development at Hortonworks.
Hortonworks said that its Data Platform is designed to deal with data from many sources and formats the data in a quick, easy and cost-effective manner.
Providing an open, stable and highly extensible platform, the Hortonworks Data Platform makes it easier to integrate Apache Hadoop with existing data architectures and maximize the value of the data flowing through a business.

CenturyLink is the third largest telecommunications company in theUnited States. The company provides broadband, voice, wireless and managed services to consumers and businesses across the country. It also offers advanced entertainment services under the CenturyLink PrismTV and DIRECTV brands.
Recently, Savvis announced the availability of its private cloud solution and managed services offerings through Savvis’ data center in Hong Kong.
