Riverbed Technology launched Riverbed SteelConnect, an SD-WAN (software-defined wide area network) solution.

SteelConnect components include a SteelConnect manager, SteelConnect gateway and SteelConnect switches and access points.

The first component is a centralized and multi-tenant management portal that provides an intuitive and simplified workflow for designing, deploying and managing distributed and hybrid networks.

The second component is a line of physical and virtual secure WAN gateways that provide unified connectivity (point-to-point and full-mesh) and enforcement of global policy across on-premises and cloud network environments.

Furthermore, it offers zero-touch provisioning, automated VPN management and next-generation firewall and threat protection capabilities.

The third component is a line of remote LAN switches and Wi-Fi access points that support zero-touch provisioning, automate global enforcement of access control policies and provide visibility into connected users and devices.

Riverbed believes SteelConnect is a radically new approach to networking in a cloud-centric world and would revolutionize networking.

The company claimed that SteelConnect is the industry’s first and only product to unify network connectivity and orchestration of application delivery across hybrid WANs, remote LANs and cloud networks such as AWS and Microsoft Azure.

“We believe SteelConnect has the potential to disrupt the multi-billion dollar branch office router market and re-define networking as we know it today,” commented Jerry M. Kennelly, Riverbed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

SteelConnect is available today through Riverbed’s Early Access Program, with general availability planned for Fall 2016.
