Infotech Lead Europe: AZ Sint-Jan Brugge Hospital Belgium has deployed Polycom RealPresence video collaboration solutions in five of its operating rooms to enable surgical staff to consult on live medical operations.
AZ Sint-Jan Brugge Hospital first started working with Polycom in January 2012 to ensure that patients get the best possible healthcare. The hospital plans to have 18 such digital operating rooms in the future.
The digital operating rooms utilize two-way multipoint telemedicine links and live medical operations for real-time training. The use of HD image-assisted and minimally invasive surgery regardless of location facilitates medical know-how and skills to be transferred between operating rooms in real time. HD video conferencing ensures better image quality in endoscopy and other surgery.
The use of multipoint telemedicine links between operating theaters enables surgical staff to consult on multiple surgical procedures without wasting time on resterilizing and moving between theaters. The smallest of details of live surgery are shared across rooms via videos and images using high resolution cameras.
Polycom’s executive desktop solution – Polycom HDX 4500 and Polycom RealPresence Mobile for tablets and smartphones connects surgeons outside of the operating rooms with assistants in several operating rooms simultaneously.
The hospital has more than 2100 staff. It needed a solution that would reduce the time spent on travelling between campuses while improving communication internally and externally. Video collaboratio
The hospital uses video recording and archiving for training to improve the knowledgebase of physicians and the workflow in the operating room.
Polycom has teamed up with robotics company Anybots to create video enabled robots called “QB” and with provider of patient monitoring solutions, Vivify Health, to create a care management platform that gathers data about users and feeds it back securely to healthcare providers. Polycom has also made its RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite available to facilitate video meetings between patients, healthcare providers and specialists using the browser on PC, mobile device or video room system.
