Panasonic launched a new technology called Smart Coding to enhance the encoding algorithm in standard H.264 video streams.
Panasonic said the new technology is available as a firmware upgrade to all new generation Panasonic 3, 5 and 6 Series Models. Moreover, it lessens the bandwidth demand and the amount of storage needed for surveillance video images.
“This innovative encoding technology will help users better manage network bandwidth resources, reducing storage requirements and lower the overall total cost of ownership, while still providing the crisp, high-resolution images they’ve come to expect from Panasonic,” said Charlie Hare, Panasonic’s National Category Manager, Security and Mobile Video Solutions.
Panasonic said the smart coding technology uses a variety of advanced noise reduction processes and algorithm advancements, including Frequency Divided Filter, 3-D Multi-Process Noise Reduction and Group of Picture Control.
FDF and 3D-MNR act to reduce both fine picture noise and video-grain generated under low illumination, improving picture quality before compression. Meanwhile, GOP Control removes unnecessary information in a scene, which results in a lower bit rate.
Separately, Panasonic announced a relationship to work with threat protection provider, Symantec Corporation to provide a series of secure platforms for its video surveillance solutions that will serve a variety of purposes, including data protection from cyber-attacks.
Through the relationship, Panasonic will combine Symantec’s technology for detecting and analyzing cyber-attacks with its own in-house embedded cryptography technology to provide a highly secure and robust protection layer for its embedded surveillance products.
Secure Communication will be available in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2015 on all new Panasonic 3, 5 and 6 Series Models and will specifically protect against denial-of-service attacks, IP spoofing and file tampering.
Panasonic Group has set a target of reaching 10 trillion yen in sales by 2018. The company expects its business-to-business solutions and its comprehensive video surveillance specifications and implementations to play an important role in achieving this global growth target.
