NEC launches fifth generation HYDRAstor platform

NEC Corporation of America announced the fifth generation of its HYDRAstor storage platform, the HYDRAstor HS8-5000.

The company said the new solution increases effective storage capacity 54 percent more than the previous version and also supports larger disk drives than the previous model.

“This HYDRAstor release is much more than a hardware enhancement; it is a significant step forward to boost a level of integration with general applications,” said Hide Senta, vp of strategic business.

The new release includes a single node model (HS3-510), which mainly covers small-medium market and remote sites for DR.

Further, NEC said its advanced data services will be a new framework to integrate applications with HYDRAstor.

HS8-5000 can ingest backup data up to >5PB/hr which is 27X higher than the next closest competitor in the Purpose-Built Backup Appliance (PBBA) market.

According to NEC, the HYDRAstor HS8-5000 delivers advanced erasure coding data protection technology scales to support bigger drives easier than RAID technology.

It added that HYDRAstor HS8-5000 and HS3-510 are available immediately.
