MWC 2015: NETGEAR demos Category 9 LTE Advanced technology

NETGEAR, a manufacturer of computer networking equipment, is demonstrating its first Category 9 LTE Advanced technology at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

NETGEAR will highlight this technology with an AirCard mobile hotspot.

The LTE Category 9 AirCard mobile hotspot represents the first next generation of 4G LTE products from NETGEAR supporting 4G LTE Advanced Category 9 and 3-Carrier Aggregation. It aggregates up to three bands to provide up to 60 MHz of bandwidth for a potential download speed up to 450 Mbps.

“The 3-Carrier Downlink Aggregation of Category 9 LTE Advanced has the potential to offer up to 50 percent faster peak download speeds than Cat 6, enabling better performance, reduced latency and more reliable connectivity for the end user,” said Jim Kirkpatrick, senior vice president, LTE products at NETGEAR.

The hotspot is enabled by the Qualcomm snapdragon X12 LTE modem from Qualcomm Technologies and a QCA6174-2 stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi chipset from Qualcomm Atheros.

LTE Category 9 products from NETGEAR will be available as an AirCard mobile hotspot later in 2015 from multiple service providers.

QTI and Qualcomm Atheros are also showcasing an array of connected mobile and home experiences at MWC to further demonstrate their leadership in next generation connectivity solutions.
