Motorola Solutions has won a contract to provide a nationwide Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) digital radio network to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).
At present, more than 2 million users are using TETRA digital radios from Motorola Solutions globally.
Motorola Solutions did not disclose the size of the deal. Motorola Solutions won the deal as part of a local consortium.
RBPF is following a Strategic Planning Program from 2007-2016. As per this program, the RBPF has embarked on this National Digital Communication System (NDCS) to meet increasing expectations from citizens for public security and safety by government agencies.
Royal Brunei Police Force will be the first agency in Brunei to deploy nationwide TETRA.
Other government agencies in Brunei will roll out TETRA in phases.
TETRA deployment is aimed to eliminate duplication of resources and provide centralized emergency and operational information using encrypted, two-way digital radio communications. Motorola says the NDCS eventually will be extended to other emergency and government agencies including the Fire & Rescue Department, Ambulance Service, National Disaster Management Center, Narcotics Control Bureau, Royal Custom, Immigration & Labor, Land Transport and Marine Department. This would enhance seamless communications across agencies during joint field operations.
As part of the deal, Motorola Solutions will supply and deploy the latest highly redundant Dimetra IP TETRA switches and base stations to provide nationwide coverage, with more than 5,000 portable and mobile radios for RBPF and other key government agencies.
