Microsoft expands Unified Communications market share in Q3: Infonetics

Unified communications market leader Microsoft continues to expand its share, ending the third quarter of 2013 with 49 percent revenue share of the UC application segment, said Infonetics Research.

Sales of unified communications (UC) applications grew 5 percent in Q3.

Infonetics Research, in its Enterprise Unified Communications and Voice Equipment report for Q3, said Cisco is leading the PBX/KTS revenue market for the 9th straight quarter, followed by Avaya.

The global enterprise PBX market-including TDM, hybrid and pure IP decreased 8 percent to $1.9 billion in Q3.

Though Global PBX revenue grew 5 percent sequentially in the third quarter of 2013, the research report noted that none of the major geographical regions posted year-over-year gains in PBX revenue, but most, with the exception of North America, grew on a quarter-over-quarter basis.

EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, Africa) is beginning to show small signs of improvement; sales in the region continue to be a challenge for many vendors, but a turnaround is underway in certain countries.

The report noted that demand for enterprise communications remains flat to down and pricing continues to drop.

“Businesses worldwide remain conservative in their telephony spending, relying instead on existing solutions. There are pockets of growth, but they’re too modest to lift the overall market this year from last year,” said Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP, UC, and IMS at Infonetics Research.
