KIOXIA America, a leading innovator in memory and storage solutions, has introduced a game-changing addition to its lineup with the unveiling of the KIOXIA CD8P Series solid state drives (SSDs).
Designed to cater to the demanding needs of server and cloud applications, these high-performance SSDs are set to redefine data center capabilities, offering unparalleled performance, predictability, and versatility.
The KIOXIA CD8P Series SSDs have been meticulously crafted to excel in general-purpose server and cloud environments, perfectly poised to harness the power of PCIe 5.0 (32 gigatransfers/s x4) performance. These cutting-edge drives are ideally suited for data center applications that generate intricate mixed workloads, seamlessly spanning large-scale virtualized systems.
Boasting remarkable capacities of up to 30.72 terabytes, the KIOXIA CD8P Series SSDs are available in both Enterprise and Data Center Standard Form Factor (EDSFF) E3.S and 2.5-inch (U.2) form factors, accommodating a wide array of infrastructure configurations.
Jeff Janukowicz, Research Vice President at IDC, commented on the relevance of the new CD8P Series SSDs, stating, “The new CD8P Series SSDs give these customers the range of performance, capacity, and security choices essential for meeting the storage requirements of next-generation digital enterprise and data center infrastructure.”
Notably, the KIOXIA CD8P drives exhibit an impressive 60 to 80 percent increase in sequential read performance compared to their predecessors, specifically PCIe 4.0 SSDs. This boost in performance translates to remarkable figures, including random read performance of up to 2,000K IOPS and random write performance up to 400K IOPS. Moreover, the drives offer consistent and low-latency performance, with 99.999th percentile latency measuring under 250us in standard random read workloads and under 1.8ms in standard OLTP-style mixed workloads.
At the heart of these fifth-generation data center drives lies the KIOXIA BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory triple-level cell (TLC) technology, coupled with an in-house developed controller. Complying with PCIe 5.0 and NVMe 2.0 specifications, as well as the NVMe Management Interface (NVMe-MI) v1.1d, the KIOXIA CD8P Series SSDs also support the Open Compute Project (OCP) Datacenter NVMe SSD specification (select requirements).
Neville Ichhaporia, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the SSD Business Unit at KIOXIA America, highlighted the CD8P Series’ readiness for next-gen PCIe 5.0 servers, emphasizing its superior performance and low latency across E3.S and 2.5-inch form factors.
The launch of the KIOXIA CD8P Series SSDs marks a significant milestone in the evolution of data center technology, promising to empower enterprises with enhanced performance and unmatched reliability in the ever-evolving landscape of server and cloud applications.
