iPass, a provider of mobile services for enterprises, will supply Skype Wi-Fi services.
As per the deal, iPass will enhance the Skype Wi-Fi service by providing quality hotspots in more locations around the world.
“A global Wi-Fi network is fundamental to Skype’s business to support our large and growing subscriber base that use Skype products for video calling, IP voice and instant messaging,” said Todd Haugen, general manager of Skype WiFi.
iPass, which has reported $20.3 million revenue in the second quarter of 2013, has the largest commercial Wi-Fi network by far, with access to over 1.2 million hotspots across 124 countries and territories.
“Skype’s phenomenal success in growing a global user base, and now its partnership with iPass, emphasizes how critical Wi-Fi is to the mobile data ecosystem,” said Evan Kaplan, president and CEO of iPass.
Wi-Fi is the consumer’s choice for wireless network access, accounting for up to 85 percent of total smartphone-originated data traffic.
Meanwhile, iPass Open Mobile revenue grew 14 percent quarter-over-quarter, and now represents nearly 60 percent of mobility revenue. OM Wi-Fi revenue rose 24 percent sequentially.
For the third quarter of 2013 ending September 30, 2013, iPass anticipates total revenue of $26 to $30 million.
