Intel announced the specifications for the 12- to 18-core processors: Intel Core i9-7920X, Intel Core i9-7940X, Intel Core i9-7960X and the Extreme Edition Intel Core i9-7980XE processors.
The US-based technology company said that Intel Core X-series processors, announced at Computex 2017, will deliver the performance to meet extreme computing demands for virtual reality (VR), content creation, gaming and overclocking.
Content creators can expect up to 20 percent better performance for VR content creation and up to 30 percent faster 4K video editing over the previous generation. Gamers will experience up to 30 percent faster extreme mega-tasking for gaming over the previous generation.
The 12-core Intel Core X-series processor will be available starting on Aug. 28.
The 14- to 18-core Intel Core X-series processors will be available starting Sept. 25.
The 4- to 10-core Intel Core X-series processors are already on shelves and available at multiple retailers, along with more than 200 Intel X299 Chipset motherboards.
The new Intel Core i9 processor brand represents Intel’s highest performance for advanced gaming, VR and content creation.
The new Intel Core i9 Extreme Edition processor is the first consumer desktop CPU with 18 cores and 36 threads of power.
The Intel Core X-series processor family also delivers the first teraflop desktop CPU from Intel. Intel Core X-series processors use more cores and more threads to do more simultaneous workloads, like extreme mega-tasking (game + stream + record + encode).
Extreme Performance for Single-Thread and Multi-thread Computing
# Up to 15 percent faster multithread performance over previous generation
# Up to 15 percent faster single-thread performance2 over previous generation
# Massive 36-thread performance and quad-channel memory for content creation and extreme mega-tasking
# Up to 68 lanes of PCIe 3.0 on the platform to expand your system with fast SSDs, multiple discrete graphics cards and ultrafast Thunderbolt 3 technology
The new Intel X299 chipset with improved I/O capabilities support 30 total high-speed I/O lanes, up to three Intel Rapid Storage Technology PCIe 3.0 x4 storage support, and support for Intel Ethernet Connection I219 (Jacksonville LAN PHY).
Intel X299 chipset is Intel Optane memory ready and provides faster throughput times with DMI 3.0.
