Intel hires Qualcomm veteran Venkata Renduchintala to bolster IoT business

Intel president Venkata Murthy Renduchintala
Intel has hired Qualcomm veteran Venkata Murthy Renduchintala as president of Client and Internet of Things (IoT) Businesses and Systems Architecture Group.

The US technology major started the Client and Internet of Things (IoT) Businesses and Systems Architecture Group recently bringing together Intel’s Platform Engineering, Client Computing, IoT, Software and Services, and Design & Technology Solutions groups.

Renduchintala will also be an executive officer of Intel, the largest semiconductor company in the world. Qualcomm and Samsung are rivals of Intel in the semiconductor business. Intel recently said its revenue for 2016 will not be affected by dwindling PC business.

“Intel’s strategy and direction is solid, and we continue to evolve our organizational structure to better position the company for growth,” said Brian Krzanich, Intel CEO.

Renduchintala has technical, operations, business and customer relationship-building skills. He also brings expertise to Intel from his long career in the system-on-chip (SoC), mobile and IoT areas.

At Intel, Renduchintala will align product design, engineering and business direction to tighten Intel’s strategy and speed execution across the communications, device and IoT segments — core to growth in the smart and connected compute era.

Renduchintala, 50, recently served as executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies and co-president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) — responsible for leading its semiconductor business in the computing, mobile and adjacent segments.
