Tech giant IBM has joined forces with global infrastructure provider American Tower to propel the era of edge computing into a new phase. The collaboration aims to revolutionize the deployment of hybrid, multi-cloud computing platforms at the edge.
IBM HQAmerican Tower has nearly 225,000 wireless and broadcast towers, rooftops, and in-building systems across 25 countries. Following its acquisition of CoreSite in 2021, the company solidified its position with a network of interconnected U.S. data center facilities.

Jim Morrish, Co-founder, and Managing Director of Transforma Insights, forecasts a meteoric rise from 14.1 billion active IoT devices at the close of 2022 to a staggering 1.8 billion connected car devices by 2032, growing at an impressive CAGR of 11.8 percent.

The edge capabilities of American Tower and IBM hold the promise of transmitting software updates to vehicles before dispatch, potentially optimizing manufacturing efficiency. This game-changing approach addresses critical facets including latency, data sovereignty, security, compliance readiness, and reliability requirements for manufacturers.
