Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is the number one supplier in the India server market with share of 25.5 percent in Q3 2018.

Dell with 23.6 percent, Lenovo with 8.4 percent and Cisco with 8.2 percent are the other server vendors in India, according to IDC.

The 6.1 percent drop in the x86 server market, which accounted for 91.6 percent of overall server market, to $253.4 million was majorly due to the absence of big server deals from IT and ITeS service providers and spillover of telco deals in the coming quarters.

Professional services accounted for 57.5 percent of x86 server market revenue contribution followed by telecommunications with 10.4 percent during Q3 2018. Manufacturing and Banking were slow during Q3 2018 owing to limited new deals and small upgrades.

Volume servers fell 7.2 percent to $240.2 million, while midrange server rose 24.6 percent to $13.2 million in Q3 2018. Non-Intel platforms are still preferred for the high-end category of servers by most of the large end-users.

The non x86 server market revenue fell 24.9 percent to $23.2 million. IBM led the market with 63.8 percent share, followed by Oracle with 22.5 share and HPE with 13.8 percent share during Q3 2018.

“End users have use memory centric computing with higher cores and CPU configurations resulting into growth of server ASP,” said Harshal Udatewar, market analyst, Server, IDC India.
