The Uttar Pradesh government is yet to clear Rs 900 crore payment to laptop maker HP.
HP provided more than 5 lakh laptops to UP some 4 months ago. It’s a shame on the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. ( Blog on UP laptop deal )
Media reports suggest that HP will not supply the remaining committed laptops due to the pending bill.
HP cannot afford to supply more laptops though it recently lost its market share dominance to Lenovo in the PC market in Q1 2013. ( Lenovo beats HP to regain lead in PC market share in Q2 2013 )
In June 2012, the Samajwadi Party government announced a budget of Rs 2,721 crore for distributing tablets and laptops to meritorious students of classes X and XII. Of this, while Rs 400 crore was earmarked for tablets, the remaining was to be spent on laptops.
