How Cisco, Huawei performed in Ethernet switch market

The Ethernet switch market revenue dropped 2.1 percent to $7.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2019 and rose 2.3 percent to $28.8 billion in 2019.

The enterprise and service provider (SP) router market revenue dipped 7.7 percent to $4.2 billion in Q4.

The enterprise and service provider (SP) router market revenue rose 0.4 percent to $15.5 billion in 2019.

Switch business

100Gb Ethernet switch revenues grew 24.7 percent in the quarter and made up 18.3 percent of the market, down from 19.6 percent in the prior quarter. 100GbE shipments reached 5.8 million ports and $1.4 billion in revenue in Q4.

25GbE switch ports shipments rose 57.1 percent in the quarter. 10GbE port shipments grew 7.0 percent while revenues decreased 13 percent. 10GbE made up 27.3 percent of all 2019 Ethernet switching revenues.

1Gb remains the primary connectivity technology for campus and branch deployments, driving 1Gb port shipments to 133.6 million in Q4, growing 4.1 percent, and making up 67.8 percent share of all ports shipped in the quarter and 40.3 percent of Ethernet switching revenues.

Cisco’s combined service provider and enterprise router revenue fell 18.5 percent in Q4 and dropped 3.4 percent in 2019 with 37.2 percent share.

Huawei’s enterprise and SP router revenue fell 4.1 percent in Q4 but rose 4.1 percent for the full year. Huawei has 29.8 percent share in enterprise and SP router business in 2019.

Juniper has 13.2 percent market share in the service provider routing market in 2019, down from 14.7 percent in 2018.

Router Market 

The enterprise and service provider router market fell 7.7 percent in Q4. Service provider router market dipped 11.7 percent. Enterprise router market grew 6.2 percent.

The enterprise and service provider router revenue in 2019 grew 0.4 percent. The service provider router segment dipped 1.5 percent. Enterprise router segment grew 6.9 percent in 2019.

Cisco’s Ethernet switch revenues dropped 6.4 percent and its share reached 50.9 percent in Q4. Cisco switching revenues rose 0.1 percent in 2019.

Cisco is the market leader in 25GbE/100GbE segment with 39.7 percent share in Q4.

Huawei’s Ethernet switch revenue grew 8.9 percent in Q4 and rose 7.8 percent in 2019 as compared to 2018. Huawei has 9.6 percent market share Ethernet switch business in 2019.

Arista Networks’ Ethernet switching revenue fell 11.1 percent in Q4 but rose 9.8 percent for the full year. Arista’s Ethernet switch market share stood at 7 percent at the end of 2019, up from 6.5 percent year over year.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Ethernet switch revenues dipped 15.9 percent year over year in Q4. HPE’s Ethernet switch revenues declined 9.1 percent in 2019, dropping market share to 5.4 percent in 2019 from 6.1 percent at the end of 2018.

Juniper’s Ethernet switch revenues rose 11.7 percent in Q4 but dropped 7.2 percent for the full year. Juniper’s Q4 router revenues declined 4.6 percent and dipped 11.7 percent for the full year.
