GoDaddy announces domain name .SHIKSHA for registration

Web hosting vendor GoDaddy on Wednesday announced the availability of generic top level domain .SHIKSHA for registration.

The new domain name extension means education or learning in Hindi.

GoDaddy, which works with several SMB customers in India, said the .SHIKSHA domain name extension helps individuals, business owners and organizations associated with education to get the right domain name and attract Indian students on the Web.

The company said the customized domain extension is suitable for schools, tutors, coaches, trainers, vocational training institutions, test preparation services and educational guides.

This apart, .SHIKSHA also immediately implies an association with India or Indian.

Rajiv Sodhi, vice president and managing director, GoDaddy India, said: “Through .SHIKSHA, we now offer organizations in the education industry an option to help create a more compelling online identity and target the right customers. With localized domain names, we can accelerate Internet adoption and make the Web relevant for millions of Indian consumers and business owners.”

The Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) plans to release more domain name extensions every week, through 2015, thus expanding the domain names such as.COM, .ORG and .NET, to more than 700. In addition to .SHIKSHA, GoDaddy also offers more than 150 other domain name extensions, including .PHOTOGRAPHY, .CLUB, .GURU and .EXPERT.
