Infotech Lead Asia: Cisco, Acme Packet and Sonus Networks are struggling to maintain lead in the enterprise session border controllers (SBC) market in the first quarter of 2013.
These top SBC vendors are struggling as many of the smaller enterprise SBC vendors continue to make inroads on the big 3, Infonetics Research said on Friday.
Infonetics Research says Cisco, Acme Packet and Sonus Networks were within 1 revenue share percentage point of each other in the first quarter of 2013.
“Competition in the enterprise SBC market is very dynamic, with more than 20 vendors offering some form of SBC functionality, either integrated in another network element or as a standalone device,” said Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP, UC and IMS at Infonetics Research.
Meanwhile, Infonetics expects about a 30 percent jump in global revenue in 2013 for enterprise SBCs.
Demand for enterprise SBCs in North America continues to be very strong: sessions are expected to grow 27 percent year-over-year in 2013.
Enterprises with between 101-5,000 employees made up the largest segment of sessions in Q1 2013, with 73 percent of shipments.
In fact, in 2012 Cisco led the enterprise session border controllers market, ahead of Oracle-owned Acme Packet. In 2012, Cisco maintains a slight lead ahead of Acme Packet.
Price competition affected Enterprise SBC market to report 9 percent growth to $180 million in 2012.
