EMC VSPEX infrastructure drives SRM University to deliver cloud-computing course

EMC VSPEX infrastructure will assist SRM University to deliver cloud-computing course to its students.

SRM University utilizes the EMC infrastructure to provide post graduate program in cloud computing that covers cloud architecture, datacenter virtualization and deployment models.

The university trains students on applications including Microsoft SQL server, Oracle, and Pivotal Greenplum database.

S Rajendran, professor, Department of IT, SRM University, said: “EMC supported us to implement the cloud-computing program and train our faculty members. We selected VSEPX infrastructure due to the flexibility the solution gives us in the choice of technologies, and the performance delivered through using best-in-class providers.”

The department of Information Technology partnered with Uniware Systems to design and deploy the VSEPX infrastructure comprising EMC VNX unified storage, Dell Servers, HP Networking, and VMware vSphere virtualization.

The IT department has already virtualized 60 percent of its laboratories due to the quick deployment of the infrastructure and its simplified management. Compared to the five administrators the university required previously, one system administrator is now required for maintenance of the infrastructure.

Krishna Kant, head, EMC Academic Alliance – South Asia & Russia said, “Through the EMC Academic Alliance Program, we equip IT students with requisite skills to build their careers in the new IT environment.”

The recent EMC Zinnov study says India will need around 100,000 private cloud practitioners to tap the Cloud opportunity.

EMC’s Academic Alliance program since its inception in 2005 is now 300+ strong in India with 120,000+ students educated till date. 100+ new Institutions joined EMC Academic Alliance in 2013.
