Dell EMC leads India external storage market

Dell EMC is the leading supplier in the India external storage market in 2018, according to the latest report from IDC.

Dell EMC said the Indian enterprises are now striving for Hybrid Cloud and multi-Cloud offerings where the same ease, simplicity and security can be achieved on-premise that a Cloud-only environment is expected to provide, in less cost.

Dell EMC is the undisputed leader in the storage market. Dell EMC’s mid-range business grew 20 percent in India, where price point is one of the key indicators. Dell EMC has about 30 percent share in the mid-range segment. There is huge potential for India and the market is expected to grow by 8 percent in the next three-four years.

IDC India’s earlier report said Dell EMC had 30.3 percent revenue market share in India’s external storage market in Q3 2018. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is the number two vendor with 18 percent share in Q3 2018.

NetApp, IBM and Hitachi are the other leading players in India’s external storage market. The total size of in India’s external storage market in Q3 2018 was $82 million.

Dell EMC said India is leading the external storage business for the US-based technology company in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region and the country has overtaken other countries with an all-time high demand for storage.

IDC says the external storage market in India grew at 16.7 percent in 2018. Indian storage market is projected to grow at a CAGR of eight percent over the next four years while the APJ (excluding China) market is expected to grow at 1.39 percent in the same time-frame.

All-flash array (AFA) is nearly 34 percent of all storage shipped today. By 2022, AFA would be 42 percent in APJ (excluding China). In India, AFA is 37 percent of all storage shipped today and by 2022, it would be 43 percent of all storage, said the IDC in its latest report.

Global market

The worldwide external enterprise storage market is also dominated by Dell EMC with 30.3 percent of worldwide revenue in Q4 2018.

NetApp has 10.9 percent and and HPE has 10.6 percent revenue share. IBM has 8.9 percent share, while Hitachi has 6 percent share and Huawei has 5.7 percent market share.
