CommScope buys iTRACS to strengthen data center solutions

Infotech Lead America: CommScope has acquired iTRACS, a provider of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solutions.

The company did not disclose the size of the acquisition.

The strategic acquisition will strengthen CommScope’s position in infrastructure management, enabling CommScope to provide comprehensive and automated infrastructure management platforms.

In January 2012, IDC has named Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, as the market leader in the DCIM space.

Besides iTRACS, some of the key players dominating the DCIM market are CA Technologies, Emerson Electric, JouleX, Modius, nlyte Software, Fieldview Solutions, IBM, Panduit, Rackwise, Raritan, Rittal, Schneider Electric, Sentilla, SynapSense, and others.

iTRACS helps enterprises improve operational efficiency, maximize capacity utilization, reduce costs and optimize the business value of their infrastructure investments.

CommScope says iTRACS solutions are deployed globally in some of the world’s most complex data centers and infrastructure environments. More than one-third of its customers are in the Global 500/Fortune 500, with 1.6 million square feet managed in one customer’s site alone.

Kevin St. Cyr, senior VP of Enterprise Solutions, CommScope, said: “iTRACS brings CommScope an unparalleled understanding of enterprise connectivity through its rich history in intelligent infrastructure.”

CommScope’s decision to buy iTRACS is significant as the data center infrastructure management industry is emerging as one of the key markets for IT and facilities management vendors with increasing demand in data center virtualization, optimization of operational costs, and enterprise migration into private clouds.

Growth in cloud computing and enterprise virtualization is resulting in increased demand for data centers, thus leading to development of new technologies to reduce power consumption and ownership costs for managing data center infrastructure.
