Infotech Lead India: Cisco is leading the videoconferencing equipment market, ahead of Polycom and Huawei, in the first quarter of 2013.
Infonetics Research in its latest report said enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence equipment and software revenue declined 20 percent sequentially to $661 million in Q1 2013.
According to its report — Enterprise Telepresence and Video Conferencing Equipment market share and forecast — dedicated system sales decreased 26 percent in Q1 2013 from Q4 2012, due to slow demand for immersive telepresence systems.
Conversely, sales of PBX-based video systems grew 18 percent sequentially in Q1 and are up 118 percent from the year-ago quarter.
Videophones, the fastest-growing hardware endpoint segment, posted another strong quarter, said Infonetics Research in its report.
EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) outstripped growth in North America and Asia Pacific in the first quarter of 2013.
Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research, said: “Declines in dedicated systems are almost perfectly offset by growth in PBX systems, which doubled year-over-year in the first quarter of 2013, as enterprises seek out lower-cost multimedia communication solutions.”
