Cisco acquires Skyport Systems

Cisco network technolgy for CIOsCisco announced the acquisition of Skyport Systems, a provider of cloud-managed, hyper-converged systems that run and protect business-critical applications.

Founded in 2013 in Mountain View, California, Skyport has already raised $30 million from Google Ventures and Cisco Investments to ramp delivery of zero-trust secure computing infrastructure to the enterprise.

The enterprise networking company said the acquisition of the privately-held technology company will enable Cisco to utilize Skyport’s intellectual property, software and network expertise to accelerate priority areas across multiple Cisco portfolios.

Cisco was also an investor in Skyport. Cisco did not disclose financial details of the deal to acquire Skyport.

The Skyport Systems team will join the Data Center – Computing Systems Product Group led by senior vice president Liz Centoni and the Service Provider – Networking Group led by senior vice president Jonathan Davidson.
