Cognizant will assist CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst), to utilize mobile technology for its 3.3 million members.
The not-for-profit health care company will benefit as CareFirst will set up a direct connection with its members to manage health coverage, access information about physicians and claims, and obtain details about benefits on smartphones and tablets.
As per the IT deal, Cognizant will leverage its Mobility Testing Lab in Phoenix, AZ, for on-demand, cloud-based testing of the mobile applications across multiple devices and carriers, helping CareFirst save time and infrastructure maintenance costs.
“Our move into the mobile space is driven by the growing significance of mobility in the overall connected health effort,” said Harry D. Fox, Senior Vice President for Technical and Operational Support Services at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.
“With expertise in SMAC (social, mobile, analytics and cloud) technology architectures, we look forward to conceptualizing, architecting, and implementing mobile capabilities for CareFirst to help transform the way the company engages with its members,” said Krish Venkat, executive vice president of Cognizant’s Healthcare and Life Sciences practice.
Cognizant recently signed an IT deal with Network Rail, a rail infrastructure provider in the U.K. As a key IT Solutions and Systems Integration (SI) Framework partner, Cognizant will support Network Rail in implementing improvements in a number of its core information management functions and processes, including reliability of the infrastructure and performance.
